Have you just bought your boat trailer and are preparing for your first trip?

We all know this exciting feeling. However, don’t be blinded by enthusiasm and keep in mind that towing a boat on the road is a dangerous situation for you and other travelers. So take a look at this post and do our safety checklist with your trailer, divided into categories

Tires

Let’s start with the tires, which are one of the most important accessories. We recommend that you read the manual of your boat trailer or read the information on the tire itself about the maximum pressure because remember that contrary to vehicles, the tires of boat trailers need to be inflated to their maximum pressure.

This also applies to your spare tire. Make sure that your spare tire is inflated to the maximum and that it is in good condition.

Finally, give the tire nuts a manual check. They should be securely fastened to the wheels. Take the opportunity to make sure you have the proper tools in case of a flat tire on the road.

Fastening the boat

Another key point is that the boat is properly secured to the trailer and in the correct position with the tie-down straps at the proper anchor points. This will prevent you from having problems during your trip. Don’t forget the safety chains as well, because in case there is a problem at the trailer connection point, this will allow your boat to stay attached to your vehicle to avoid any major accidents.

The electrical system

It is essential that you check the electrical part of your trailer so that the lights (stop lights, running lights, turn signals, etc.) work properly, since the lights are what allow proper communication between you and other drivers.

General maintenance

Do not forget to perform preventive maintenance periodically: greasing, change of wheels, anti-corrosion, etc., to ensure the proper functioning of your trailer.
