All axles shall have a hub surface a track dimension and/or a brake flange dimension. Spring axles will have a spring center measurement. When you need to replace an axle, it is very important to properly measure your axle to make sure you get the correct replacement. It is easier to measure your axle when the boat is off the trailer.

Measuring the hub face/hub track: The hub face is the outside of the hub where the tire will touch the hub. It is best to remove the tire assemblies from the axles when measuring the hub face. Hook your tape measure on the outside of the hub where your tire touches your hub. Measure across your axle to the exact same spot on the other side. Do not measure on the back of your hub.

Measuring the brake flange: Hook your tape measure to the outside of the brake flange that is welded to your axle. Measure across your axle to the exact same location on the other side. Do not measure to the back of the brake flange.

Spring center measurement: For this measurement, you will measure from the center of the flat spring across the axle to the center of the flat spring on the opposite side. It is always helpful to have someone hold the tape measure for you. If you can’t get help, you can also get this measurement by holding your tape measure on the outside of one leaf spring and then measure to the inside of the opposite leaf spring. This will give you the same measurement if you were to measure from center to center.
